New Mexico is home to two medically significant spider species. If you're finding spiders in your home, don't take chances โ call the professionals.
Call (575) 221-8107Most spiders are harmless and even beneficial โ they feed on insects. But in Clovis and the surrounding region, two species require serious caution: the black widow and the brown recluse.
Black widows are identified by the red hourglass marking on their abdomen. They prefer dark, undisturbed areas: garages, crawl spaces, wood piles, and storage areas. Their venom is neurotoxic and can cause severe muscle pain, cramping, and in rare cases, more serious symptoms.
Brown recluses have a violin-shaped marking on their back and prefer similar hiding spots. Their bite causes necrotic skin lesions that can take weeks or months to heal.
Beyond these two, Clovis homes frequently deal with wolf spiders, house spiders, and cellar spiders โ all of which, while not dangerous, are unwelcome guests for most homeowners.
๐ฆ Storage areas โ Cardboard boxes, piles of clothing, and cluttered spaces are perfect spider habitat.
๐๏ธ Garages and sheds โ Rarely disturbed, often warm, and full of hiding spots.
๐ชต Wood piles โ Stacked wood against the house is a prime black widow habitat. Always wear gloves when moving firewood.
๐๏ธ Bedrooms and closets โ Brown recluses are often found in shoes, bedding folds, and clothing left on the floor.
We check corners, voids, window frames, eaves, and other common spider harborage areas throughout your home and property.
We remove existing webs and apply residual treatments to surfaces where spiders travel, including baseboards, window frames, and entry points.
Spiders follow their food source. Reducing the insect population in and around your home makes it far less attractive to spiders long-term.
If you've spotted a black widow or brown recluse in your home, don't attempt to handle it. Call us and we'll handle it safely.
